Applications were accepted for the Police Chief position from September 1 through September 30. A total of 16 applications were received,from across the country and around the world. Eight candidates were selected to complete two interviews with City staff and community members on October 12 and 13, 2020. 
  
Three candidates have been chosen to participate in a virtual community open house on October 21, 2020. These same three candidates will also be interviewed by City Manager Jeff Niten. We expect to announce our new Police Chief in the first week of November.

Shelton residents are invited to sign up to participate in a virtual community open house, via Zoom, with the final 3 candidates on October 21 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. These candidates will also be recording 2-5 minute introductory videos about themselves that will be available to be viewed on October 20. 

Each candidate will be available for 30 minutes. Event participants will use the "Raise Hand" feature on Zoom and will be called on by City staff.

Registration will be open from October 14 - October 19, 2020 (8:00 a.m.).
Note: The sign-up form for this event asks participants for their name, residential address, and email address. We're asking for residential addresses to ensure that as many Shelton residents are able to access this event as possible.

This event will be livestreamed via MasonWebTV.

All community members will be invited to complete a survey to provide their feedback on the candidates and the open house itself. Event participants will be emailed the survey link directly. The link will also be posted here immediately following the event.

Candidate #1: Ronald Schaub

Ron-SchaubRonald Schaub is currently a Programs Lieutenant with the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, a position he's held since January 2019. His previous positions include Public Safety Chief for the Pierce Transit Department of Public Safety; Director of Public Safety for the Steilacoom Department of Public Safety; and Crime Analysis Unit Supervisor and Assistant Marine Service Unit Supervisor for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. Schaub earned an executive masters degree in public administration from the University of Washington and a bachelor of arts degree in history from Central Washington University.





Candidate #2: Ton Phan

Ton-PhanTon Phan has served as Deputy Police Chief, Police Lieutenant, and Patrol Sergeant for the Davis Police Department, located in Davis, CA. He worked for the Davis Police Department from February 2001 through May 2018. He worked as a Patrol Officer for the Davis Police Department, Fairfield Police Department (Fairfield, CA), and Vallejo Police Department (Vallejo, CA). Phan earned a bachelor of science degree in occupational studies-vocational arts from California State University-Long Beach and is a graduate of the Leadership in Police Organizations program and POST Command College. 






Candidate #3: Carole Beason

Carole-BeasonCarole Beason is currently a Police Lieutenant with the San Diego Police Department, a position she's held since March 2015. Her previous positions include Adjunct Instructor with the San Diego Community College District; and Uniformed Patrol Officer, Acting Detective, Field Training Officer/Administration Officer, and Sergeant with the San Diego Police Department. Beason earned a bachelor of arts degree in social science from Chapman University and a master of science degree in law enforcement and public safety leadership from the University of San Diego. Beason is also a graduate of the Law Enforcement Leadership program at San Diego County Regional Leadership Institute and the Law Enforcement Leadership program at POST Supervisory Leadership Institute.
