City Council Vacancy

The City of Shelton is requesting applications from Shelton residents to fill a vacancy on the City Council. To be eligible for the position, applicants must be a registered voter in the City of Shelton and have continuously resided within Shelton city limits for at least one year. 

About the Shelton City Council
The Shelton City Council comprises seven individuals responsible for policymaking for the City. Councilmembers are elected citywide, and elected councilmembers serve four-year terms. 

Every two years, councilmembers appoint one member of the Council to serve as Mayor. The Mayor serves as the presiding officer at Council meetings and is the ceremonial leader of Shelton. Once a Mayor has been selected, the Council may appoint a Deputy Mayor.

The City of Shelton operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The Council appoints a City Manager, who is responsible for administrative functions of the City (ex: daily operations of City government, personnel functions, and preparing the City budget). The City Manager is directly accountable to the City Council.

Eligible applicants must be both:
  • A registered voter in the City of Shelton, and
  • Have continuously resided within Shelton city limits for at least one year

  • Hand-delivered: Applications can be turned in at the Customer Service desk, located on the second floor of the Civic Center during business hours. Our business hours are Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Closed from 1 - 2 p.m.); Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
