Wastewater Treatment Plant Receives Department of Ecology Award for 2021 Performance

Home News List Wastewater Treatment Plant Receives Department of Ecology Award for 2021 Performance
Shelton's Wastewater Treatment Plant is one of just 124 facilities in Washington state to receive the "Wastewater Treatment Plant Outstanding Performance" award from the state Department of Ecology for their 2021 performance.

To be eligible for this award, employees achieved full compliance with our water quality permits in 2021. The Department of Ecology evaluates wastewater facilities "to determine whether they were meeting state pollution limits, monitoring and reporting requirements, planning to prevent spills, performing pretreatment on wastewater, and operation demands outlined in their permits."

Our Wastewater Treatment Plant cleanses approximately 868 million gallons of water per year. This prevents harmful contaminants from entering our local waterways like Goldsborough Creek, Oakland Bay, and Hammersley Inlet.

This is the second consecutive year the plant has received this prestigious award. A complete list of award winners and more information can be found on the Department of Ecology's website.
